Marietta Square

Is a park in Marietta, Georgia, that also serves as a typical city center. There’s something for everyone in Marietta Square in downtown Marietta, GA, whether you’re looking to shop, eat, or be entertained. Stop by the Welcome Center in the former railroad depot for maps, information, and restaurant recommendations. You may even start your souvenir purchasing at Marietta Square here. Glover Park, located in the square’s center, is a lovely area for picnics, pictures, and games. Mayor John Glover gave the property in the nineteenth century with the condition that it be kept as a park or it would go to his heirs. The park’s centerpiece is a fountain, but kids will flock to the train engine playground, which includes a recreation of the iconic locomotive known as The General. The on-site gazebo is a fantastic location for pictures and weddings. The “bandstand” (or stage) just across the street serves as a focal point for concerts and gatherings. You’ll find a variety of stores throughout the park. The plaza is lined with unique gift shops, boutiques, antique shops, ice cream, and candy businesses, and a Brumby Rocker store. A diverse blend tempts your taste buds with over thirty Marietta Square restaurants, ranging from conventional American and Southwestern fare to BBQ, Australian, Thai, Vietnamese, Colombian, Greek, French, Italian, and Mediterranean cuisine. Desserts, bakery products, pizza, a brewery, and “spirits” are also easily accessible. Many restaurants include outside seating, allowing you to people-watch while you eat. The history of Marietta Square is extensive. The American Civil War’s Great Locomotive Chase began here. Militia trained on the park during the Civil War, the location was utilized as a military hospital, and the structures were eventually demolished during Sherman’s March to the Sea. Check out the tasting tour if you’re interested in cuisine. Join up for a Ghosts of Marietta tour if your interests tend to the “spooky” side. The Marietta Cobb Museum of Art, Marietta Fire Museum, Root House Museum and Marietta Museum of History are among the other attractions on Marietta Square. The Strand Theater, for example, hosts shows throughout the year for theater fans. Glover Park is also home to several outdoor events. The Glover Park Concert Series, for example, takes place on the last Friday evening of each month from April through September. More information on activities on the Square may be found on the Marietta calendar of events. The Marietta Square Farmers Market is open every Saturday morning from 9 a.m. to noon, rain or shine, all year, and on Sundays from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. from April to November.
